Fall Colors

Fall is an incredible time to visit the McKenzie River. As the air gets a bit crisper, nature give us a spectacular display of colors.

Some say that Oregon fall colors is only second to New England. When combined with the beauty of the McKenzie River, the vote for most beautiful is an easy win for the McKenzie River.

Fall MUST DO activities: You MUST come hike the:

  • Waterfall Loop trail - Koosah and Sahalee falls in one 1/2 mile walk or in a 3 mile loop (f you have to pick one trail - this is it)
  • Clear Lake loop trail - Walk around the 'swimming pool' clear waters of clear lake - the headwaters to the famous McKenzie River (a relatively flat 4 mile walk)
  • Proxy Falls loop trail - Just over a mile long this loop trail is only accessible while Hwy 242 is open (usually mid June to first snow).  2 gorgeous wispy waterfalls on a fairly flat walking path.

The leaves usually start changing in late October and go through late November - exact dates are hard to pin as the leaves change according to weather patterns that are dictated by mother nature.

The area trails are open until snowfall - which is normally late November to December.
